About Maha Shivratri

What is Maha Shivratri? Maha Shivratri is one of the most prominent Hindu festivals in India. Known for its beautiful rituals like fasting, praying, chanting, meditating and offering various Abhishekam (ritual bathing) for the Shivalinga, representing Lord Shiva, this auspicious day has all-night-long rituals and celebrations seeking blessings from the Divine through Lord Shiva and his consort, Maa Parvati. The word, ‘Shivratri,’ means the night dedicated to praying to Lord Shiva and as the name suggests, this festival is observed mainly during the night, making it truly one-of-a-kind.

Why Shivoham Shiva Temple?

Shivoham Shiva Temple symbolizes the sacred journey of a true Yogi — a transformation from being a believer to becoming a seeker of the Ultimate Truth, transcending “Om Namah Shivaya” and evolving into “Shivoham.” First comes the understanding of Om Namah Shivaya — “O Lord, I bow to You in the form of Shiva.” Then arises the realization of Shivoham — “I am Shiva.” But the deeper truth unfolds as: “I am nothing. Shiva is everything.” This marks the evolution from faith and worship to the realization of God within — the state of Enlightenment and God-Realization. Ultimately, one understands that God is not merely a deity, but SIP — the Supreme Immortal Power: Omnipresent, Omniscient, and Omnipotent — present everywhere and in everything.
